State Department for Transport at The GLA Prioritization Roundtable
At the ongoing Government Legislative Agenda Prioritization Roundtable, the State Department for Transport, led by my colleague, PS Mohamed Daghar, presented a comprehensive portfolio of policy, legislative, and regulatory initiatives aimed at transforming Kenya’s transport sector.
Key highlights include:
1. Policy Initiatives: Progress on the Integrated National Transport Policy, the National e-Mobility Policy, and the National Urban Transport Policy, all positioned as priority initiatives shaping sustainable and modern transport systems.
2. Legislative Initiatives: Development of regulatory frameworks for ports and railways, alongside review of the Traffic Act (Cap. 403), ensuring that our laws keep pace with sectoral growth.
3. Statutory Instruments: Introduction of key regulations, including the NTSA (Operation of Commercial Service Vehicles) Regulations, 2026, and the Traffic (School Transport) Rules 2026, designed to enhance road safety and efficiency.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to a safe, efficient, and well-regulated transport ecosystem that supports economic growth and national connectivity.
It was an engaging session, and I am pleased to witness the focused efforts by the transport sector to advance the legislative and policy agenda in alignment with national priorities.
